A prominent award-winning Nollywood actress, Iyabo Alice Ojo, is a director, and producer known mostly for her roles in Yoruba movies.
Gbedu magazine unveils that she was born as Alice Iyabo Ogunro on 21 December 1977 in Lagos but hails from Itoko, a suburb of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. She obtained her West Africa School Certificate at National College, Gbagbaga in Lagos before she proceeded to Lagos State Polytechnic where she received a diploma certificate in Estate management.
Ojo made her acting career in 1998 when she approached popular actress, Bimbo Akintola whom through her guidance got Iyabo registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and took her round the industry and she was given an opportunity to showcase her talent through Keppy Ekpeyong in 1998 where she played a sub- lead role in a film titled “Satanic”.
In 2002, she made her Yoruba-language debut with Baba Darijinwon, a Yinka Quadri film and later decided to pitch her tent with Yoruba. She then joined ANTP, she also joined Odunfa Caucus where they have the likes of Alhaji Hassan Taiwo (Ogogo), Alhaji Yinka Quadri, Alhaji Abbey Lanre as the leaders of the group.
And in 2004, She started producing her own movie like “Bolutife”, “Bofeboko”, “Ololufe”, “Esan” , “Okunkun biribiri” and her latest film Silence, which premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja, in Lagos in 2015.
Iyabo married a Lagos-based movie marketer in 1999, when she was 21 but is now divorced from their father even though she still bear her former husband’s surname, Ojo. The marriage produced a son and then a daughter, Festus and Pricilla born in 1999 and 2001 respectively.
However, the actress has been romantically linked with founders and General Overseers of Omega Fire Ministry and Salvation Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman and David Ibiyeomie, respectively.
Ojo, who is the CEO of ‘Fespris World’, a beauty parlour launched her NGO, Pinkies Foundation, which caters to the children with special needs and the less privileged, in May 2011.
Overtime, she has bagged different awards due to her performance in the movie industry;
In 2006, she won Gold Award for Outstanding Performance.
In 2007, she won African Film Award UK Best Cross Over Actress.
In 2007, she won New Generation Arts & Culture Practitioners (NGACP) Honourary Merit Awards & Best Actress of the year.
In 2007, she won Ambassador Club of OAU (ACO – Ile Ife) Most Striking Female Artist.
In 2009, she was presented the City People Entertainment AWARD (CPEA) Recognition Award.
In 2011, she got the Abuja Int. Film Festival – Winner Best Feature Film Nigeria for OMO GOMINA.
In 2011, she won the Botra Award (BA) for Excellent Performance on Stage.
In 2011, she received Deluxe Magazine Award UK for Excellence & Recognition.
In 2012, she was given the Best of Nollywood Award (BON) Best Actress in Supporting Role.
In 2013, she bagged the Classic African Merit Award (CAMA) best Actress of the year.
In 2014, Iyabo received the Int Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Nigerria in New Jersey (IAPNN) awards for Creating awareness on the mental issue caused by child abuse in SILENCE.
In 2014, her movie, SILENCE won the Best Movie of the Year at [BON] AWARDS.
In 2015, Iyabo won the Africa MouthPiece int. Woman of the year Award.
